Introduction to the method of standard steel grades in UNS system

UNS brand series, basically is a slight change in the United States based organization standard series of original brands, adjustment and unified and compiled. Using different prefix letter on behalf of iron or steel and alloy, together with the last 5 numbers together a series of brands. Examples are as follows:
 
D00001 ~ D99999 - steel for mechanical properties;
 
F00001 ~ F99999 - cast iron;
 
G00001 ~ G99999 - carbon and alloy structural steels (bearing steel);
 
H00001 ~ H99999 - H steel (guaranteed to harden steel);
 
J00001 ~ J99999 - cast steel (other than tool steel);
 
K00001 ~ K99999 - other types of steel (low alloy steel);
 
S00001 ~ S99999 - stainless steel and heat resistant steel;
 
T00001 ~ T99999 - tool steel (including tools used for forging and casting steel);
 
W00001 ~ W99999 - welding material.
 
This kind is subdivided into:
 
W00001 ~ W09999 - carbon steel;
 
W10000 ~ W19999 - Mn-Mo low alloy steel;
 
W20000 ~ W29999 - Ni low alloy steel;
 
W30000 ~ W39999 austenitic stainless steel;
 
W40000 ~ W49999 ferrite stainless steel;
 
W50000 ~ W59999 - Cr low alloy steel.
 
Compared with the other brands, sometimes UNS series brand is too long, such as the ASTM standard grade is 8822, UNS is G88220, which may be one of the reasons is not widely used. The detailed content is no longer necessary, please refer to the standard text.
